 题目：Qualitative Research in Applied Linguistics: Designing and Analyzing Interview-Based Research（应用语言学质性研究方法：访谈类研究设计与数据分析）

报告摘要：

This lecture offers guidance on conducting interview-based research in applied linguistics and related disciplines, addressing key methodological considerations from research design to data analysis. The lecture begins by examining the types of research questions best suited for interviews and discusses the process of identifying participants. It then outlines effective approaches to designing interview questions and utilizing technology for recording and transcription. Special attention is given to the researcher’s role in facilitating dialogue and the co-construction of meaning during interviews. The lecture also presents two analytical approaches: a grounded theory method employing coding techniques and a narrative approach focusing on participants’ stories, while considering factors that influence the choice between these methods.

报告人简介：

Dr. Christina Higgins is Professor in the Department of Second Language Studies at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. She is a sociolinguist who studies multilingualism from a discursive perspective, drawing on social constructionist, semiotic, critical, and postmodern frameworks. She strives to be a sociolinguist for the “real world” and to engage in scholarship that will effect positive change in society. Her areas of expertise include sociolinguistics, ethnographic discourse analysis, multilingualism, language and identity, family language policy, language and globalization, community-based participatory research. She has written two books, published more than 60 journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Higgins is co-director of the Charlene Junko Sato Center for Pidgin, Creole, and Dialect Studies at the University of Hawai？i at Mānoa. She has served as Chair of the Department of Second Language Studies, Graduate Chair, and Chair of PhD admissions committee. Dr. Higgins is currently in the editorial board of journals including Applied Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Review, etc.
