The Museum of China University of Geosciences (Beijing) traces its roots to the Museum of Beijing College of Geology, founded in 1952. The specimens of the museum's initial period inherited the collection which has a century history from the geological departments of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, and Tangshan Railway College. The musuem has a complete system of geological specimens. Currently it treasures a collection of over 55,000 specimens, of which more than 4,500 items are on display. The museum mainly holds exhibition of minerals, rocks, fossils and other geological specimens. The collection is collected by several generations of geologists, college teachers and students since last century, and some specimens are donated by alumni and frends or purchases by workers.
